Statewide Apprenticeships

Housing Minister Nick Champion recently paid a visit to Scott, the proud owner of Host JS Build, along with his diligent and newly graduated carpentry apprentice, Oli. The Minister took the opportunity to emphasise the immense significance of the South Australia (SA) Housing Trust employment pathways program, which serves as a crucial platform for providing training opportunities to individuals with aspirations of embarking on careers in house construction, mirroring Oli’s own chosen career path.

We are thrilled to express our heartfelt congratulations to Oli Zammit for reaching the incredible milestone of becoming the first apprentice to successfully finish his training as part of the Housing Trust’s Employment Pathway Program. We also want to extend a special note of gratitude to our esteemed host, Scott from JS Build, for providing exceptional mentorship and training to Oli. Thanks to Scott’s outstanding guidance, Oli is now fully equipped to pursue a career as a qualified carpenter.

The SA housing project stands as a powerful and effective response to the prevalent skill shortages in the building industry. By means of government funding, businesses are empowered to invest in apprenticeship programs, thereby making substantial and meaningful contributions to the community. This strategic initiative not only fortifies the housing sector, but also plays a pivotal role in addressing the housing crisis, offering hope for a brighter future by nurturing the skilled tradespeople essential for constructing homes.

Statewide Apprenticeships Role

Statewide Apprenticeships play a crucial role in providing stability and support to both apprentices and their hosts. By taking care of administrative tasks, the program allows hosts to fully concentrate on providing apprentices with valuable experience and training.

Statewide offers additional continuous ongoing support from the Regional Managers, who regularly communicate with apprentices and hosts to provide assistance and guidance. This, in turn, enables apprentices to thrive and grow within the industry, contributing to the upskilling of the community and addressing skill shortages. Ultimately, Statewide Apprenticeships are instrumental in cultivating the next generation of highly skilled tradespeople.
