We recently had the pleasure of visiting the stunning Novotel Barossa to catch up with two of our talented chef apprentices, Kelsey and Cooper. Currently completing their Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, they are gaining hands-on experience in a professional kitchen while working toward nationally recognised qualifications.
During our visit, it was inspiring to see them fully immersed in the world of hospitality—prepping fresh local produce, refining their techniques, and working alongside experienced chefs. Kelsey and Cooper are excellent examples of how commercial cookery training combines on-the-job learning with real industry application.
This visit highlighted the true value of apprenticeship pathways for aspiring chefs. Through structured workplace training and mentorship, our apprentices develop not only culinary skills but also the confidence and resilience needed in a fast-paced kitchen. Kelsey and Cooper are learning far more than recipes—they’re mastering the discipline, teamwork, and creativity that are essential in any successful culinary career.
Their journey also reflects the strength of partnerships between training providers and hospitality venues like Novotel Barossa. These collaborations create real career opportunities and ensure our apprentices are industry-ready. We’re proud to support future chefs like Kelsey and Cooper as they pursue their goals.
